5 Great Products for a Sexy Smooth Head
Whether it’s Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel or Patrick Stewart that floats your boat, there’s no denying that bald is a great look to rock, There’s something rugged and authoritative about a guy that’s comfortable showing off theior noggin for the world to see.
But while you may save some coins on your hair care budget, you’ll still have to invest in the right tools and products to make your head look great. We’ve cobbled together 7 of the best products out to get you going down the road of being the ultimate chrome dome warrior!
Razors
There are many different routes you can take when it comes to keeping the hair away. We’re going to stick with wet razors here, as clippers and the like will give a great buzz-cut, but you’ll need a good wet shave to take it all the way to the scalp.
For those starting out, we suggest steering clear of straight razors and safety blades. Both are great! But are a more advanced shaving style. Your head is easy to cut, and even small cuts can bleed a surprising amount. We’d suggest sticking with a quality cartridge razor so that you can get used to the motions required, and the intricacies of your head.
The value option:
It’s a no frills choice, but that’s actually a good thing. Your head isn’t quite the same as your face when it comes to shaving, and some of the feartures of pricier cartridge blades can actually get in the way. This razor is a simple tool that wil help you learn the contours of your head with minimal fuss. Replacement blades are nice and inexpensive, which lets you ditch blades more freely. You’ll be shaving more surface area, so you’ll likely be swapping out blades more often. Being able to cheaply replace them, is a great thing to have for a novice head shaver.
Handles cost $7.00 and a back of 4 blade cartridges is $12.
The Unique Twist:
The folks over at HeadBlade have attempted to change things up by altering the form factor of the razor so create one specifically designed for the shape of the head and the motions needed to shave it. It works really well and can give you a great shave with minimal fuss. However, there is a bit of a learning curve when it comes to using it. It can be a great option if you approach the idea of shaving from a more outside of the box point of view.
The Moto Razor costs $12.99 and a pack of 4 blade cartridges costs $12.99.
Shaving Cream
There is a lot of personal preference at play when it comes to which shaving cream to use. If you have skin that tends to dry out, we’d suggest staying away from anything overly scented and look for options that moisturize while you shave. The dryer your skin is, the more likely you are to nick it.
A lather that you apply with a brush works great for head shaving. You don’t usually need the same thick cream on your head, and being able to apply it a little more surgically and get a good smoothening of the soap is great! What we love about this brand is that the soap is easy on delicate skin and the scent is nice and subdued. Working the lather into the stubble helps greatly with reducing razor burn and accidental cuts, and there’s nothing quite like applying your soap with a brush to do just that.
Proraso shaving soap goes for about $10.
Skin Balm
Having a dry scalp sucks. An after shave moisturizing agent will help keep the scalp feeling fresh and avoid excessive dryness and flaking. There are several types of products available that can help, but the ones that you use on your face aren’t always the same ones you should use on your dome.
Brickell Men’s Instant Relief After Shave
This product is great for sensitive skin, and when you first start shearing your scalp, it will be plenty sensitive. This moisturizing after shave can be worked into the skin easily, and help make sure that it does not dry out. It comes in both scented and unscented varieties, though we feel the scented one is quite pleasant and not at all overpowering. BEst of all, it leaves your skin feel fresh, but not overly oily, which can be an issue with some similar products.
Brickell Men’s Instant Relief After shave comes in two sizes, costing $13 for 2oz and $25 for 4oz.
The Secret Weapon
So you have your razor, your cream and your shave balm. You’re ready to rock and roll, right? Not so fast. There is one more tool you need to have at your disposal, especially when you are a novice head shaver.
A Styptc Pencil.
The reality is that you will accidentally cut yourself. A little nick here, a little cut there. It happens to even experienced head shavers, and it’s really easy to do when you are first learning the contours and intricacies of your head. Having one of these on hand to quickly seal up a cut and keep bleeding to a minimum is absolutely essential.
Clubman Woltra Nick Relief Stypic Pencil
There is absolutely nothing fancy or special about this product. It does exactly what you need it to, with no bells or whistes, and it does this inexpensively. Just a little water and roll this bad boy on your cut, and you’ll know it’s working by the sharp sting you feel. No fuss, no muss and that small cut is no longer bleeding. This is an area where we feel the best bang for your buck is to go budget.
